LEESBURG – They are young and old, native-born and immigrants, students, workers, and retirees. Some are progressive, some are moderate, and some identify as conservative. One is a former Secretary of State. They are motivated by health care, gun violence, Donald Trump, and many other issues. The array of supporters highlighted in the Wexton Warriors series are as diverse as Virginia’s Tenth District, and they tell the story of a changing region and a surging political campaign:
The Wexton Warriors represent the way Jennifer Wexton has empowered people from a wide variety of backgrounds in VA-10 to work for change, and given expression to the passion which we are seeing across the district as thousands of volunteers work to help get out the vote this week.
Conventional wisdom would suggest that in a midterm year it is enough for a candidate to be critical of the President and run against incumbency, but tight races in districts where Trump is deeply unpopular in states like Texas, Florida, New York, and California reaffirm the old adage that “candidates matter.” Wexton’s favorable ratings are among the highest of any challenger running this year, a fact we would attribute in large part to her positive message that emphasizes strong roots in the Tenth, her record as a prosecutor and legislator with bipartisan accomplishments, and her focus on the issues that matter to people here. Jennifer is listening to voters and lifting them up, and the Wexton Warriors show how widely that message has resonated in VA-10.
